2017 | 31” X 46” | machine pieced, hand embroidered, and machine quilted commercial cottons, handpainted fabrics, silk and cotton embroidery floss

 Inspired by imagery of Alice Paul stitching a star onto her handmade banner as states granted women the right to vote, I created my own banner. I kept the color palette of the early women’s rights movement and drew inspiration from traditional flag and banner design.

 The present truth is: we live in a world where enlightenment towards the rights of women as well as race and gender equality has much room left to grow.
